The Epworth Fire Department offers condolences to the family of retired Captain Clarence Urbain who passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the age of 95. Clarence served on the Epworth Fire Department for 28 years from 1952-1980 retiring at the rank of Captain. In 1958, Clarence along with Dan McDermott and Bill Mausser were awarded the Carnegie Heroism Award for his part in saving construction workers involved in a trench collapse in Epworth. Clarence served many years on the Epworth City Council and was involved in many projects in the city, putting his carpenter skills to work. Also known as Murph or Cowboy, Clarence was involved in pretty much everything Epworth for many decades. Clarence was one of many volunteers to spend countless hours building the fire station on North Center Avenue in 1973. He was a dedicated volunteer who responded to many calls in the 28 years he served. He will be missed by all of his family, friends, firefighters and neighbors. Thank you for your service and may you rest in peace Clarence.
