The Epworth Fire Department was able to purchase and install a new digital sign through a FEMA Fire Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant. The sign will be used by the department for recruiting new volunteers and to promote the operations of the fire department. Many volunteer fire departments across the country are dealing with recruitment and retention issues and signs such as these are ways for the departments to tell there stories, promote their activities and to help raise community awareness. The sign was installed during the week of November 2nd and became operational on Friday, November 6th. There are guidelines outlined from FEMA on what type of information can be displayed on the sign and the department members will be receiving training on the programming of the sign at a later date. No local tax money or money from our fund raising events were used in the purchase of the sign. The fire department wishes to thank the Mayor and City Council for approving the sign and supporting the project.
