The Epworth Fire Department Paramedics just completed a 16 hours course on Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Paramedics have been attending the classes the past 2 weeks. This is not a requirement from the State of Iowa in pre-hospital care but The Epworth Fire Department wants to offer the best possible care to citizens of Epworth along with the people in their responding area. The course consists of ECG rhythm identification designed to test our knowledge of rhythms we may encounter as a PALS provider. Pharmacology designed to test our knowledge of core drugs that will be used. This drug knowledge includes the indications, contraindications, and methods for administration of these agents. We were trained in IV/IO access, airways and proper technique. Stations were designed to simulate the knowledge you will need to care for the seriously ill or injured children. The last night consist of testing your knowledge in testing stations along with a written exam. Happy to report that your Paramedics took this course very seriously and all passed the PALS course. Our instructor was Dennis Bradley RN, EMT-PS, Firefighter. Dennis is a nurse in ER from Mercy Health Center Dubuque, Dubuque Firefighter and also volunteers his time to Key West Fire Dept.

It's a pleasure to serve you!

Epworth Fire Department.
