Epworth FD reponds to structure fire near Bankston

On Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 3:01 a.m. the Epworth Fire Department was notified by the Dubuque County 911 Center of a working structure fire located at 25005 New Vienna Road, Epworth. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully engulfed machine shed with multiple vehicles on fire inside the building. The farm is owned and occupied by Bruce Engelken. Twenty firefighters responded and remained on the scene for over five hours. Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Farley, Holy Cross, New Vienna and Centralia-Peosta Fire Departments for water support with tankers. The 60x40 machine shed and all of its contents are a total loss. There is no damage estimate of the building and contents at the time of the report. The Epworth Fire Department was also assisted at the scene by the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office and Maquoketa Valley REC. No animals were in the building and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is believed to have started in a vehicle inside of the machine shed and is accidental.
