On January 12, 2019 at the annual appreciation President's Party, the Epworth Community Fire Department honored long time members for their service to the Rural Board. The ECFD is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that contracts with townships and smaller cities to provide fire and ambulance service to their area. At the annual meeting in November two members announced their retirements. Joe McQuillen served the board for 45 years, with many terms as President of the Board. Bill Beyer also retired after 36 years of service to the Board. They are being replaced on the board by their sons, Tim McQuillen and Ken Beyer. Also in 2018 we were deeply saddened by the loss of board member Larry McDermott. Larry served on the board for 31 years and was a tremendous asset to not only the Epworth Fire Department, but all of the fire and emergency service agencies in Dubuque County. Todd McDermott has filled the spot on the rural board for his brother Larry. The current board of directors for the Epworth Community Fire Department consists of President Bill Brown, Vice-President Jack Smith, Directors Ken Beyer, John Lehmann, Todd McDermott, Tim McQuillen and Joe Zalaznik. Sheila Pitts also serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Board. We thank them all for their service and dedication!
