The Epworth Community Volunteer Firemen were awarded a 2018 Dubuque Racing Association Grant that allowed for the purchase "Binder Lift" patient lifting devices for the ambulance service.

The new devices will be placed on multiple units of the Epworth Fire Department and will allow EMS responders to lift patients and move them safely. It also decreases the chances for injuries to the responders as there are multiple straps and locations for multiple people to share in the lifting.

The DRA provided a $3,000.00 grant to purchase the lifts which almost covered the total cost of the project. The department also allocated some of the funds from the annual fund raising dance. Including this grant, the Dubuque Racing Association has awarded over $122,700.00 to the Epworth Community Volunteer Firemen over the past twenty one years.

The Epworth Community Volunteer Firemen is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation comprised of the volunteers who respond to emergencies in and around the Epworth area and was founded in 1911.
