On Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 the Dubuque Racing Association announced the Epworth Community Volunteer Firemen and the Epworth Community Fire Department will receive funds through the DRA's 2012 annual grant program. The Dubuque Racing Association distributes funds from its operation annually. The DRA operates Mystique Casino and is the sponsoring co-licensee for the Diamond Jo Casino in Dubuque Iowa. The Epworth Community Volunteer Firemen were awarded a $7,134.00 grant to purchase a power lift cot for the ambulance. This will provide 50% of the funding for the project and our asking from the DRA was fully funded. The remaining funds will be derived from the annual dance to be held on May 26th, 2012. The Epworth Community Fire Department (Rural Board) was also awarded a $8,764.00 grant to replace and upgrade a thermal imaging camera. This piece of equipment allows firefighters to see in smoke filled environments as well as determine temperature variances in looking for fire extension in hidden areas of structures. This grant request was also fully funded by the DRA. Both agencies are separate 501(c)3 non profit corporations which makes each of the organizations eligible for a grant. Since 1997, the DRA has awarded the Epworth Community Volunteer Firemen a total of $92,670.28 and the Epworth Community Fire Department $57,423.55 through their grant program. Thank you to those who patronize our local casinos and Play Dubuque! THANK YOU TO THE DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION, MYSTIQUES CASINO AND THE DIAMOND JO!!!
