On Monday, May 19th, the Epworth Fire Department conducted live fire training during our regular monthly training. Tonight’s focus was on scene size-up, conducting a 360° walkaround, drafting operations, and transitioning from outside fire attack to interior. Here’s a quick explanation: if we see a fire during the walkaround, we’ll make an exterior attack with a quick burst of water to knock down the fire and improve the environment for firefighters entering. Afterward, the fire attack line is moved to an entry point to fully extinguish the fire inside. This technique helps cool the environment and make it safer for firefighters, as well as protect anyone inside during the primary search.
Remember, firefighters’ primary concerns are life safety and property conservation. We are thankful to have the opportunity to utilize the abandoned home which we will continue to train on for the next month at which time we will burn it all the way down.
Also, don’t forget about our annual dance this Friday at Epworth Fire Station—food, drinks, and dancing. Come out and support these dedicated men and women! |
